Eastern Airways have announced plans to launch daily weekday flights between Southampton and Aberdeen, complementing its existing flights that currently operate via Newcastle.
This means that BAA's two smallest airports will enjoy a direct air link for the first time ever.
Andy Flower, Managing Director at Aberdeen Airport, commented:
"We are very pleased to see the announcement of another direct service being added to Eastern's extensive network out of Aberdeen. Southampton is a strong base for both business and leisure activities and will prove to be a very popular service. Eastern Airways continuing support for the Airport Business Development Forum is yielding benefit to the airline and the regional economy."
Eastern Airways Director Graeme Ross believes the 1 hour 20 minute journey will also open up benefits for the leisure market.
"The additional flight opens up more options for those travelling between the cities on business while both are ideal destinations for those visiting the Highlands of Scotland and the home of Cowes respectively while Southampton is of course a key departure point for anyone embarking on a luxury cruise."
The inaugural non-stop flight, which will be operated by a 50-seat Saab 2000, will take place on Monday 14 March 2005, with prices starting at £108 return including taxes and charges. The direct flight will depart Aberdeen at 11:55, arriving at Southampton 13:15, before returning north at 13:45 with a scheduled arrival time of 15:05.
The improved service will bring the number of weekday flights between Aberdeen and Southampton up to four. In addition there is one Sunday rotation via Newcastle.
