Liverpool will be linked with Brussels, Frankfurt and Stockholm says budget airline Ryanair.
The airline currently has 13 destinations from the airport, including four in Italy, and yesterday chief executive Michael O'Leary announced that the next routes will most certainly be Brussels, Frankfurt and Stockholm.
But the expansion won't stop there.
"We will open two new bases in Europe next summer and I would be surprised if we don't link those back to Liverpool," said Mr O'Leary.
"We have been somewhat tardy in bringing in new routes but we are going to put a rocket under this place in the summer."
The airline chief joined Liverpool JLA chief Neil Pakey at the airport yesterday to celebrate the three millionth passenger through the airport.
Mr O'Leary told visitors that it had taken 15 years to get to the three million mark, but it would "probably" take only two years to reach the next three million.
Mr Pakey agreed, saying that Ryanair's links with Italy will be a boost to the airport and local economy.
"Ten thousand Italians could be getting off the planes each week and enjoying Merseyside, which is a great boost for the tourist trade."
