Glasgow Airport has today welcomed plans by long haul airline Emirates to massively increase capacity on its daily service from Glasgow to Dubai.

From October, Emirates will replace its 284 seat Airbus A330 with a 427 seat Boeing 777-300 aircraft, increasing route capacity by 50%.

Stephen Baxter, MD at Glasgow Airport, said: “We’re delighted with this announcement. Emirates have been a huge success at Glasgow Airport, and this expansion is a tremendous vote of confidence in the airport and the city. The knock on effect on the region’s economy, and the local tourism industry, will be enormous.”

Mr. Baxter added: “Emirates has been a real success story at Glasgow Airport, not just in terms of passenger numbers, but in an economic sense too. Emirates SkyCargo offers businesses from across Scotland direct access to the markets of the Gulf region and beyond. This expansion therefore represents a major economic boost for Scottish exporters.”
