News: Fewer people take Birmingham flights in February

Birmingham International Airport (BHX) handled 570,179 passengers in February. Some of this decrease could be attributed to the fact that 2004 was a leap year. Taking this factor out of consideration, the airport is showing growth of 1.8%, rather than a decline of the same amount.
Although there was an overall reduction of 5.4% in the number of scheduled passengers during February, growth was achieved on scheduled services to the Indian sub-continent, which saw an increase of 2.4% and on domestic routes, which grew overall by 1.8%.
Other scheduled routes which saw a rise in traffic over the month were;

Scheduled traffic accounted for 80% of the total February figure while charter passengers made up the remaining 20%.
Despite the current reductions in flight traffic, the airport's management is looking forward to a busy Summer 2005 season.
