Ryanair staff were on hand this afternoon with representatives from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to welcome passengers onto the first of Ryanair's new destinations from Liverpool – a daily service to the Italian capital Rome.
Passengers checking-in at the Airport were greeted with champagne and pizza, whilst the first arriving Italians were equally welcomed to Liverpool with gifts.
Cathy Timlin, Ryanair's Sales Manager Scotland & Regional UK, commented, "Ryanair is delighted to link Liverpool with the eternal city of Rome. The new route has been a real hit with over 20,000 bookings to date."
Managing Director of Liverpool John Lennon Airport Neil Pakey echoed Timlin’s words, adding, "This is only the first of Ryanair's 'Italian Jobs' from Liverpool. With Ryanair's other Italian services due to start soon, there will be more capacity to Italy from Liverpool than from any other northern UK airport, firmly making Liverpool the preferred choice for visitors travelling to and from Italy."
