bmibaby is launching new routes from Birmingham International and Durham Tees Valley to Newquay. The airline has 1,000 seats up for grabs with just taxes and charges to pay.
bmibaby will operate four times weekly flights from Birmingham to Newquay, offering over 2,000 seats a week in the first direct air link between the Midlands and Cornwall.
Weekday and Sunday flights depart Birmingham at 8pm, with Saturday flights departing at 7am, providing the perfect short break opportunity. Newquay will be the thirteenth route offered by bmibaby from Birmingham, with the inaugural flight departing the same day as the airline's other new flights to Bordeaux and Nice.
Regular fares on the new route will start from just £19.99 one way, including taxes and charges. Flights are on sale now, with the first flight departing 10 June 2005.
Newquay St Mawgans Airport is situated just five miles north of the popular UK holiday resort. Dubbed the UK surfing capital, Newquay remains one of the UK's best loved and well known resorts. Direct flights will now make the resort accessible in just over an hour, cutting four hours off the regular summer journey time to Cornwall from the Midlands by road.
David Bryon, managing director, bmibaby, said:
"As the Midlands largest carrier we pride ourselves on offering a comprehensive and diverse range of fllight routes. Newquay is undoubtedly one of the UK's best-loved seaside resorts but the journey can be quite daunting during summer. We are now offering an affordable, quick way of accessing the South West of England with direct daily flights throughout the summer months. For the people of Cornwall the new route will offer business and leisure links to Birmingham city centre and the North East."
Peter Vella, Business Development Director, Birmingham International Airport said:
"This new daily service to Newquay will be very popular with Midlanders. We are delighted to add this destination which will be our eleventh domestic route and Birmingham's first direct air link with Cornwall."
bmibaby has expanded rapidly since its launch at Birmingham in January 2005 adding four additional routes. The airline has already carried 200,000 passengers on its services from Birmingham, which is well ahead of expectations.
