Robin Hood Airport was the venue for two major events in its short history late yesterday, when a specially chartered Thomsonfly aircraft flew into the airport.
The aircraft, chartered by the 'French Connect Conference', the Low Cost Forum for French Airports, brought with it delegates from across Europe who flew into the South Yorkshire region from Paris. They were there to attend the annual "French Connection" conference, which was held this year at the Hilton Hotel in Sheffield from May 9th-11th.
In partnership with Renaissance South Yorkshire, Robin Hood Airport sponsored this key event in the aviation calendar. Doncaster Council officials also saw it as an ideal opportunity by adopting the aircraft, which is to be based at Robin Hood Airport, with an official name linking it to the town.
The aircraft was permanently named: 'The Spirit of Doncaster ' on its arrival at Robin Hood Airport at 1800hrs yesterday.
David Ryall, Managing Director at Robin Hood Airport said:
"We are absolutely delighted that we were able to welcome the French Connect delegates into the regions through our new international gateway at Robin Hood Airport. It is also a magnificent feeling to have an aircraft based at the airport which will carry the Doncaster name around the world this is truly another historic day for the airport and the town".
The French Connect Conference is held annually at various venues around Europe.
Neil Pakey, Commercial Director for the Peel Airports Group said:
"Bringing the French Connect Conference here offers us the opportunity to showcase our region to the people who can make a difference by creating air service connections to and from a range of key destinations".
