The party in Liverpool to celebrate their dramatic Champions League penalty shootout victory started yesterday when the team arrived back on their flight from Istanbul at around 4 p.m.
A specially chartered Titan Airways Boeing 737 brought the cup holders back home after one of the most dramatic finals ever witnessed. Team captain Steven Gerrard showed off the cup as he led his colleagues out onto the tarmac at Liverpool John Lennon airport.
The team, who arrived as throngs of fans were also returning on a huge number of specially chartered aircraft, were then taken by bus to their Anfield home ground. From there, they commenced an open top tour of the city, watched by an estimated crowd of half a million people.
