easyJet began operating from Gatwick in December 1999 with a daily Geneva service and developed into a base with flights to Barcelona (BCN) over three years ago on 1 February 2002.

Last year, over 3.5 million passengers flew with easyJet from Gatwick, and in the next 12 months the carrier expects to transport over 5 million passengers. This means that around 1 in 7 passengers taking flights to and from Gatwick will be travelling with Easyjet.
Passengers checking in for their easyJet flights at Gatwick were welcomed by a sea of orange as streamers and balloons bedecked the hall, and staff fashioned 'BIG @ LGW' T-shirts.
From the celebrations Andy Dobson, easyJet General Manager for Gatwick, said:
"We are really proud that Gatwick is now easyJet's number 1 airport! Not only is Gatwick our biggest base, but we are the largest carrier operating from the South Terminal, with 16 aircraft serving 29 destinations with over 8000 passengers travelling everyday.
"It is a fantastic achievement that all this has been realised in just three years and thanks should go to all easyJet staff for their hard work over the years who have made this possible. easyJet is committed to growth from Gatwick and as the largest low cost carrier we are looking forward to the future and further expansion plans that we have in the pipeline."
