easyjet's announcement that they will be adding flights from Liverpool to Ibiza is the latest in a long line of new flights to Spain offered from the Merseyside hub. Flights to Ibiza will start on 24th July 2005.
easyJet are the Airport’s largest operator, and already operate nearly 30 daily departures to 13 European destinations. The airline carried over 2.3 million passengers through the airport in 2004. The new Ibiza service flights will operate three times each week, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays.
Ibiza is renowned for its famous club scene attracting tourists from all over Europe, and is expected to be popular with clubbers from all over the North West.
easyJet launched a group bookings facility for the first time just last month, making it possible to book up to 40 passengers in one reservation. Airport management believe that the combination of this new destination and this group booking facility is likely to be attractive to parties of different sizes.
The island is also a popular choice for families, with many beautiful coves and beaches as well as striking scenery and historical places of interest. In addition to the forecast popularity of this new route for independent travelers, tour operators are also expected to make use of the new service by offering holiday packages incorporating accommodation and easyJet flights, widening the appeal for passengers who prefer a tour operator to take care of all the holiday arrangements for them.
Commenting on this latest addition to Liverpool John Lennon Airport’s growing range of destinations, Airport Managing Director Neil Pakey said:
“It’s great to see easyJet continuing to add more destinations to their Liverpool operation and I have no doubt Ibiza will prove popular with a cross section of leisure passengers knowing that prices for return flights start from less than £56. easyJet have continued to add services from Liverpool each year and this new route will bring the number of scheduled services from Liverpool to 41, - that’s over double the number operating from here this time last year.”
