News: EU Jet Collapse - should consumers be warned
Flights > News > # 516 (01/08/2005)
The recent collapse of EU Jet has been used by many within the travel industry to highlight their concerns about no frills airlines, and to try and bring about more laws to provide consumer protection.
Flightmapping has always aimed to be an innovative resource with regards to finding flights, and providing information about airlines.
We will shortly be launching a profile section for all airlines operating flights from the UK, and are considering whether issues such as financial stability and reliability should be featured in these profiles.
On the one hand, our purpose is to provide consumers with as much information as possible about the companies they want to make bookings with.
On the other hand, aviation is a volatile industry, and we do not want to publish any information about an airline that we cannot fully substantiate.
In the case of EU Jet, it is all to easy for us to say "told you so", especially as few people within the travel industry thought the airline had much chance of survival. But in an industry which is still going through much upheaval, we wouldn't want to be seen to be discouraging new airlines from entering the arena.
Including this sort of information would not be without its risks, but if there is demand for it, we will do the research, and publish it.
