News: Flybe considering flights to Newquay

Flybe has announced that it is considering offering flights to Newquay, following Ryanair's row with Cornwall County Council over handling charges.
The airline has issued a statement saying:
"We note that Ryanair have taken the decision to reduce their London services at Newquay Airport. Flybe believe that this is a key route for both South West tourism and business travel and we have been interested in operating a route from Newquay to the London region for some time. There is a strong consumer demand for a fast and accessible air link from Cornwall to London and Flybe are currently reviewing the economics and viability of introducing a service from this base."
It is unclear whether the airline would operate flights from Gatwick, where they already have a presence, or if they would launch flights from Stansted, in direct competition with Ryanair. The airline has also expressed an interest in opening up a base in Southend.

The interesting aspect of this statement is the use of the term "base" in reference to Newquay. Flybe already have a strong presence in the South West, having opened up Exeter as a hub in March 2004, in addition to having their head office at the airpor
