Ryanair has shelved plans to launch a base at Hamburg Luebeck airport after local council chiefs blocked plans to upgrade the airport’s facilities. Ryanair will name a replacement base later this week, whilst still maintaining its existing operation at the airport.

The Irish carrier’s chief executive Michael O’Leary said:

“We will announce another base in Europe later this week, where we will invest over $100M in new aircraft, new routes and new jobs”.
