Low fares airline Flyglobespan have announced their most ambitious expansion to date, with the news that they are to launch daily flights to Florida next summer as part of a massive 2006 campaign.

The airline is offering non-stop flights from Glasgow to Orlando (Sanford) seven days each week next summer, with one-way prices starting from only £99 plus taxes, fees and charges of £54.50.

And as well as these low fares in their no frills section, Flyglobespan are offering two upgraded cabins on their transatlantic route – a Premium Economy and a Business Class. Prices for these seats will start at £144.50 and £494.50 respectively.

The new service will give Scotland its first daily flights to Florida, with operations starting on 2nd June 2006.

Flyglobespan’s parent company the Globespan Group has been flying across the Atlantic to Canada for over 30 years. Company chairman Tom Dalrymple says that experience will be hugely beneficially in ensuring the company caters for all needs on their Glasgow to Orlando service.

“Florida is now such a significant part of the UK holiday market that we had to make it a destination,” said Dalrymple. “A daily service is ambitious but it does give us the flexibility which travellers want.

These new Florida flights will be operated using a Boeing 767-300, fitted with power outlets for PC and video games at every seat, and a minimum seat pitch of 31”. As with other European no frills airlines, passengers will be offered food and drinks for purchase, but will not be given any free meals.

The Premier Economy cabin will offer 57 passengers a 32”-36” seat pitch with complimentary meals, drinks and in-flight entertainment.

Business Class will offer 24 sleeper seats with 50” seat pitch and full individual in-flight entertainment, dedicated priority check-in and the use of an airport executive lounge.

This move is particularly significant as it marks the launch of the first no-frills flights from the UK to the USA. It has often been argued that it would be difficult to establish standalone low-cost flights to the USA, because the addition of
