British Airways (BA) are scrapping their daily service from London Heathrow to Melbourne via Singapore . The route will be run instead by BA's partner Qantas. The Australian airline will also operate a daily flight to Melbourne via Hong Kong .

BA's decision to scrap flights to Australia 's second city is one of several longhaul network changes made recently including an increase in flights to India and China .

A BA spokesman said: "It is important that we focus our resources on routes that make a profitable contribution to our business.

"The Melbourne route has not performed well enough for us to continue to operate it and our aircraft could be utilised more effectively elsewhere."
