News: Humberside gets cheap flights to Dublin at last

Flights > News > # 679 (22/12/2005)

Ryanair have announced new cheap flights to Dublin from Humberside, one of the few UK international airports which does not have flights to the Irish capital. From 28th April 2006, the Irish budget airline will operate daily flights between Humberside airport and Dublin.

Humberside has had much of its growth potential stunted by the high profile opening of Doncaster Robin Hood airport, from where Ryanair already operate daily flights to Dublin. Earlier in the year, Ryanair boss Micheal O'Leary had suggested that he could foresee this particular route building up to three daily flights, at which time Ryanair might also be interested in opening a base there. Since the opening of Robin Hood, Ryanair have instead opted to base aircraft at Nottingham East Midlands airport, which, like Humberside, is operated by the Manchester Airports Group.

The catchment area around Humberside might not be as large as Doncaster, but this move sees Ryanair spreading its load around the North East, rather than concentrating further development at Doncaster. These new cheap flights
