Flyglobespan is to expand its Stansted operation with the launch of a daily service to Athens, with flights starting from £69 each way – including taxes.
Chairman Tom Dalrymple said:
“Greece is a fairly new market for Flyglobespan, but we recently launched weekly flights to Athens and Heraklion from Glasgow and initial interest has been very good. A daily service is a much bigger challenge but it gives travellers much more flexibility. I am sure there is a big demand for this route from the Stansted catchment area and our prices will be very competitive".
This will be Flyglobespan’s third daily overseas service from Stansted. Last November they launched Stansted’s first daily service to Tenerife. The airline has also been flying from Stansted to Geneva daily since last month..The daily Athens flights will launch in May and will initially run until October, putting Flyglobespan in competition with established rival Easyjet, who currently offer cheap flights to Athens from their bases in Luton and Gatwick. Athens was one of the first international destinations to be served by Easyjet, who's founder, Stelios Haji-Ioannou, is of Greek Cypriot origin.
