Budget airline Jet2.com has announced its 30th destination, the Norwegian city of Bergen. Jet2.com will initially operate a three-times-weekly service from the North East of England to Bergen, known as the ‘Gateway to the Fjords'. In addition, thousands of Norwegian visitors are expected to visit Newcastle, also a city by the sea, with which Bergen has long since had strong links.
Jet2.com boss, Philip Meeson, said:
“We are very excited to be launching our inaugural service to Scandinavia and Bergen is a fantastic first destination. The city has so much to offer the tourist, it is a very fun place to visit and also combines its awe-inspiring natural beauty and rich cultural heritage alongside many amazing sights, not least the Norwegian Fjords. Jet2.com's new cheap flights to Bergen will also be the first to be operated from the UK by a budget airline from outside of London. We expect people from throughout the North to take advantage of the quickest and cheapest way to get to Bergen and indeed the Fjords. Taking the ferry typically takes 26 hours; roughly a whole day longer than flying with us.”
