People wanting to travel to the Republic of Ireland will soon have a wider choice of flights from Birmingham. Aer Lingus will add Birmingham to its Cork operation from 20th June 2006, complementing Birmingham's existing portfolio of services to Ireland.
Aer Lingus' new service will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays using a 174-seat A320 aircraft. The flights will depart from Birmingham at 15:10, arriving Cork 16:20 and will leave 13:30 hours from Cork getting back to Birmingham at 14:35 hours.
Aer Lingus, which is one of BIA's longest serving airlines (since 1949), also operates four daily flights to Dublin from Birmingham.
Peter Vella, Business Development Director commented on the new service:
"Aer Lingus' new Cork flights present a fantastic opportunity for our passengers to visit this beautiful area. With its fantastic scenery, bike tours and the opportunity to kiss the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle, Cork really does have a lot to offer everyone. Aer Lingus has been a partner of the Airport for many years and we are pleased to be able to celebrate this additional service with Ireland's national carrier."
Commenting on the new service Niall Walsh, Chief Operating Officer at Aer Lingus, said:
"Aer Lingus continues to deliver on our commitment to expand our short haul network, offering low fares across new routes. This is a very exciting development for Aer Lingus which further strengthens our long existing relationship with the Birmingham Airport on our Dublin service. The addition of the Birmingham - Cork route is in direct response to customer demand."
