Doha based Qatar Airways has stepped up the frequency on its Doha to Shanghai route, with the introduction of a fourth weekly scheduled flight. The extra flight will operate to Shanghai every Thursday night from Doha, returning to the Qatari capital early Saturday morning.
The Doha to Shanghai flights operate non-stop, using an Airbus A330-200 in a two-class configuration of Economy and Business Class. Passengers are able to benefit from the airline's award-winning "Five Star" service and a fully interactive inflight entertainment system in both classes.
Strong business links between the Middle East and China – both the capital Beijing and commercial centre of Shanghai – have prompted the airline to increase capacity. With the addition in November 2004 of the four-times-a-week Beijing flights, Qatar Airways has gradually expanded its presence in the Chinese market.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said the Shanghai route had performed exceptionally well since its launch two years ago.
“Economic indicators clearly show that China is on a steep growth curve and travel, both inbound and outbound, is rising at an incredible rate. Like any commercial organisation, Qatar Airways wants to be part of the China success story, and are pleased to be able to offer the travelling public a wider range of flying opportunities to an from China.”
From March 26, Qatar Airways will operate a total of 15 scheduled flights a week between Doha and Greater China – four each to Beijing and Shanghai, and the new daily flights to Hong Kong.
