The first ever scheduled flights between Manchester and Cape Town are set to take off this winter.
Fast growing Scottish airline Flyglobespan will fly three times a week to South Africa’s most vibrant city from November, with prices starting at £578 return (including taxes). Flyglobespan chairman, Tom Dalrymple, said:
“There are a huge number of UK residents with relatives in South Africa and I expect plenty of demand from that sector.”
He added: “South Africa is also becoming more and more popular as a winter sun destination for British tourists and we see enormous potential there for various markets – sunseekers, golfers and holidaymakers looking for something different from Europe.”
Tim McDermott, Manchester Airport's aviation development chief, said Flyglobespan’s decision to operate a direct service to South Africa from Manchester is great news for passengers from across the north of England, adding:
“As the UK's largest regional airport, a strong, long haul market is important for us and I know that this service will prove to be a great success. We look forward to welcoming Flyglobespan this winter.”
