Ryanair have said they hope to end Air France’s “high-fare monopoly” by setting up their first base in France.
The Irish airline are launching 11 new routes from Marseille in November, connecting France’s cosmopolitan second city with a range of destinations across Europe.
Ryanair will be one of the first airlines to move into Marseille Provence airport’s brand new terminal dedicated to no-frills carriers.
Passengers will be able to fly from the bustling Mediterranean port to eight European cities; including London, Brussels , Rome, Eindhoven, Frankfurt, Karlsruhe Baden, Oslo, and Porto, as well as Fez, Marrakech and Oujda in Morocco. Ryanair have already announced plans operate flights from Marseille to Glasgow and Dublin.
Ryanair chief executive, Michael O’Leary, believes the news marks a major breakthrough for passengers heading to and from the south of France, who, he said, will no longer have to “suffer Air France’s high fares.”
