Bosses at Liverpool John Lennon airport expect to see a surge in the number of people coming to and from the airport by public transport following the opening of the £32 million Liverpool South Parkway railway and bus station on Sunday.
The interchange, which replaces the former Garston and Allerton stations, will link the Merseyrail network to a frequent bus service to the airport. Only 10% of the airport’s customers currently use public transport to get to the airport, a figure Liverpool John Lennon chiefs hope to see rise dramatically in the next few years.
Neil Pakey, chief executive of Liverpool John Lennon owners, Peel Airports, said: “Liverpool South Parkway will be a tremendous asset for all based in south Liverpool, but in particular for the airport. Access to successful regional airports such as Liverpool John Lennon is vital, and this important facility is a great addition to the ever improving public transport access to the airport from across the region and beyond.”

This new interchange facility could make access to Liverpool airport by public transport a great deal easier. It takes about 45 minutes from Liverpool city centre to the airport by bus, and one hour and fifteen minutes from Manchester City centre.
