Easyjet is expanding its services in Spain with the launch of a new base at Madrid’s Barajas airport early next year.
The Madrid base will start running on February 16 with several brand new routes from the Spanish capital. The details of the new routes and the size of the operation will be announced in September.
Easyjet launched flights to Barajas in 1998 and is now the largest low-fares airline to operate flights to Madrid. Easyjet’s chief executive, Andrew Harrison, said: “While Madrid is one of Europe’s largest and most important capital cities, it is still underserved by low-fares airlines. Easyjet’s new base will make Madrid much more accessible for international visitors.”
Rival no-frills airline Ryanair have also recently seen Madrid’s potential as a budget hub, and will launch their first flights to the Spanish capital in February.
