Ryanair is launching new flights from Shannon to Lodz in Poland this winter.
The twice weekly service takes off on December 4 and brings to 27 the number of routes offered by Ryanair at its Shannon base.
Ryanair communications chief, Peter Sherrard, said: “Ryanair now links Shannon with three Polish destinations, and this new route will be good news for both business links in the mid-west and the considerable Polish community in the Shannon region.”

Comment:
In their latest quarterly results, Ryanair reported on how they are having difficulties in earning decent yields (the average fare charged for each flight) from their Shannon base, despite load factors being very high. We would imagine that starting even more cheap flights to Poland will only continue this trend further, but will the Ryanair bean counters be that bothered? Yields are a very important part of the picture for low-cost airlines, but they can still maintain profitability, if the costs are low enough. With Shannon airport set to lose many of its transatlantic flights when the Shannon stopover requirement is abolished next year, Ryanair are understood to have negotiated a very attractive deal on handling fees there, so this should at least account for the lower fares.
