Ryanair is set to launch cheap flights from Nottingham East Midlands to Rimini next spring.

The three times a week service to the Adriatic resort will take off on March 27.

Ryanair's UK marketing manager, Caroline Baldwin, said: “We are delighted to announce yet another exciting new route from East Midlands. Rimini, a city in Northern Italy on the Adriatic, is a beach lover's paradise offering sun, sea and sand in abundance.”

She added: “Rimini is also Italy's party capital with copious beaches, amusement parks and a rocking nightlife. But it has culture too thanks to its Roman ruins and amphitheatre.”

So, Ryanair are restarting cheap flights to Rimini, with a new route from Nottingham East Midlands, rather than any of their London bases. Again, this looks like a new route opportunity which has been driven entirely by airport negotiations, rather than by demand. Were the people of Nottingham crying out to get cheap Ryanair flights to Rimini before anyone else could? We very much doubt it, but Ryanair already operate regular flights to nearby Forli from Stansted, in addition to Easyjet's flights from Luton to Rimini. Ryanair has probably been given a particularly attractive deal, so we will no doubt see a few more flights heading to Rimini in the not too distant future.
