News: Easyjet introduce priority boarding

Fed up of having to make an undignified dash for the best seats on no-frills flights?
Easyjet think they have come up with the solution: ‘speedy boarding’. For a fee of between £2.50 and £7.50, 20 passengers per flight will be able to leapfrog the usual queues and enjoy the pick of the aircraft’s seats.
‘Speedy Boarding’ can be booked online as part of the normal flight booking process on a first come first serve basis.
Like most no-frills airlines, Easyjet has not traditionally allocated seat numbers to passengers because it is quicker to board and unload an aircraft with unallocated seating. This enables fast turnaround times, which are at the heart of the low-cost airline business model; increasing the usage of the aircraft; making the operation more efficient; reducing costs and keeping fares low.
Easyjet now say that customer feedback shows some passengers would like more choice. The airline’s chief executive, Andy Harrison, said: “Many customers love our free-seating policy, which gives them the ability to sit where they want and next to whom they want, but there are also some who are prepared to pay a bit more to have a greater choice of seats.”
