Virgin Atlantic will be launching daily flights between London Heathrow and Nairobi next summer.
The new service to the Kenyan capital takes off on June 1, and will see Virgin taking on British Airways and Kenyan Airways, who both offer ten flights a week on the route.
Virgin Atlantic chairman, Sir Richard Branson, said passenger numbers to Nairobi have doubled over the past five years and is confident its popularity will continue to grow in years to come.
He said: “Around 500,000 people fly to Nairobi each year to enjoy the beautiful Kenyan scenery and wildlife it has to offer at its outstanding game reserves with large numbers of passengers also flying to and from America, via London.
“It is also the leading hub for east Africa, providing a gateway for the whole of east Africa and the India Ocean.”
The flights from Heathrow will take off at 7.15pm and arrive at Jomo Kenyatta airport in Nairobi the following day at 6.05am. Return flights will leave at 8.20am and arrive into Heathrow at 2.55pm. The service will be operated by an Airbus A340-300 aircraft with 240 seats onboard.
