The first flight from Britain’s first all-business class transatlantic airline took off this morning.

Silverjet are taking on American business specialists EOS and Maxjet on the lucrative London to New York route.

The maiden flight took off just after ten o’clock this morning, and was scheduled to land at New York’s Newark airport at 1pm (local time).

Silverjet offer daily flights from a private terminal at Luton airport to New York Newark from £999 return. The new airline is using two specially adapted Boeing 767-200 aircraft with 100 flat-bed units, instead of the normal 300 seat configuration. Silverjet is also the world’s first carbon neutral airline, and includes a mandatory charge within its fares to offset its total carbon dioxide emissions.

Silverjet chief executive, Lawrence Hunt, is confident the airline will revolutionise the long-haul business travel market.

He said: “For too long, long haul airline travel has been associated with hassle, disappointment and environmental damage. We’ve spent the past three years talking to customers and feel confident that Silverjet addresses their biggest concerns, making every journey as comfortable, flexible and innovative as possible.

“Silverjet aims to revolutionise the flying experience by spearheading a move towards civilised and enjoyable air travel. We are thrilled to be offering private jet experiences at premium economy prices.”
