Flyglobespan will be adding a Johannesburg service to its South Africa flights programme from Manchester next winter.
From early November, Flyglobespan will fly twice a week to both Cape Town and Johannesburg from Manchester.
The Scottish airline launched Manchester’s first-ever scheduled service to Cape Town last November, and encouraging ticket sales in the first season of flying the route have convinced the company to expand further into the South African market.
Starting from November 2, Flyglobespan will fly every Friday and Tuesday from Manchester to Cape Town – returning the following day. The Johannesburg flights take off on November 4 and will operate every Sunday and Thursday – returning to Manchester the following day.
Flyglobespan chairman, Tom Dalrymple, said: “I am very pleased that we have been able to expand our South African programme in this way for next winter. The Cape Town route has proved popular in both directions, and Johannesburg is another exciting destination – opening up a whole new catchment area in the country.”

Comment:
Flyglobespan’s initial decision to launch flights from Manchester to Cape Town looked a little ambitious at the time, considering that the airline had never previously offered any flights from Manchester, or any other long-haul flights, apart from its Orlando services from Glasgow, where it is already well established. Clearly, the Cape Town flights have been sufficiently successful to prompt Flyglobespan to look at other destinations, so Johannesburg is a logical continuation from here.
