A scheduled air link is to be re-established between London City and Glasgow International this spring.
British Airways subsidiary BA Connect has announced it will run four flights a day (one flight on Saturdays, two on Sundays) between Glasgow International and London City from March 25. BA Connect already operate flights from London City to Edinburgh, Frankfurt International and Milan Malpensa, as well as between Glasgow International and Manchester.
The new route has been warmly welcomed by Scottish business leaders, who said it will enhance Glasgow’s reputation as a major player in the financial services sector.

Comment:
British Airways previously operated London City to Glasgow flights back in 2003, but this route was rapidly axed in favour of competing with Scot Airways on the busier Edinburgh to London City shuttle route. The return of these flights will no doubt be welcomed by regular commuters between the two cities, especially by any passengers who are trying to reach the City of London and the Docklands.
Passengers who are shopping around for Glasgow to London flights might still find a few bargains on this route during the quieter times of day. British Airways’ booking engine will often give the opportunity to travel out and back through different London airports, with London City offering the advantage of being within London Underground zone three, and therefore well within reach of most Travelcards.
We have spoken to a number of people who regularly travel between Scotland and London, and they often point out that flights to Gatwick, Stansted and Luton can end up being a false economy, when the additional time and cost of getting into central London is taken into account. On the other hand, passengers using London City can be on the Docklands Light Railway and halfway towards central London within 15 minutes of touchdown.
