Easyjet has opened a base at Madrid’s Barajas airport.
The no-frills airlines expects to carry over two million passengers from Madrid in 2007 on 18 routes - three domestic, thirteen European and two to north Africa – and will base four new Airbus A319 aircraft in the Spanish capital.
Spain is one of Easyjet’s fastest growing markets. Last year it launched 13 new routes to and from Spain and a further 13 routes are set to take off this year.
Easyjet chief executive, Andy Harrison, said: “We believe Spanish air passengers have had to put up with high fares and poor service for too long. We aim to change this.”
Easyjet currently operate flights to Madrid from Bristol, Gatwick, Liverpool and Luton, and will be launching a new daily service from Edinburgh on February 25.
