Irish airline Aer Lingus has increased its long-haul fuel surcharge because of a surge in the price of oil.
The fuel surcharge on long-haul flights both to and from Ireland to New York, Boston, Chicago, Orlando, Washington and Dubai will rise to €40 (£27) per sector and on flights to and from Ireland to Los Angeles and San Francisco the increase will be €50 (£33) per sector.
Aer Lingus’ commercial director, Enda Corneille, said: "The oil price continues to be extremely volatile and in recent weeks the cost of fuel has risen significantly. We said last May that we would keep our surcharge under review to reflect changes in the price of fuel, and today's decision to increase the charge is consistent with that strategy. We remain committed to reviewing levels of our surcharge in line with current market trends."
Air France KLM and British Airways have also recently announced increased fuel surcharges on long-haul services due to the rising cost of oil.
