News: Jet2 set to scrap Amsterdam flights from Newcastle

Jet2 is axing its flights between Newcastle and Amsterdam at the end of month due to poor ticket sales.
The no-frills airline started twice-daily from Newcastle to Amsterdam in April 2006, but it has now decided to scrap the route. Passengers with forward bookings for travel after June 1 will be fully refunded.
Easyjet previously operated flights from Newcastle to Amsterdam before Jet2, but cancelled the route, complaining that the high charging regime at Amsterdam prevented them from operating it profitably. Newcastle airport aviation development executive, Jonathon Rayner, remains confident another airline will step in. He said: "It is clear that the airline has successfully stimulated a new market for low-cost services to Amsterdam, so it's not unlikely that another carrier may be interested in picking up this route.”
