Virgin Atlantic is expanding its services to Jamaica later this year with the launch of new flights between London Gatwick and Kingston.
The new twice-weekly (Tuesdays and Saturdays) service takes off on October 30, and will complement the airline’s twice-weekly services between Gatwick and Montego Bay.
Virgin’s only competition on the Kingston route will come from British Airways following Air Jamaica’s decision to axe its flights between the UK and Jamaica. Although Virgin will offer less frequency than Air Jamaica currently do, the two airlines have signed a codesharing agreement which includes Air Jamaica’s internal flights between Kingston and Montego Bay.
Virgin Atlantic’s chief executive, Steve Ridgway, said: "We look forward to working more closely with Air Jamaica to develop the routes between London and Jamaica. We intend to offer a comprehensive network of connections between our three UK airports - Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester - and Jamaica via our US and Caribbean gateways, and in future we will look to build up connecting traffic via Jamaica to other points in the Caribbean region.”
