Virgin Atlantic is set to become the latest airline to offer all-business class transatlantic flights.
Virgin boss, Sir Richard Branson, has unveiled plans to operate under the Virgin Atlantc name on routes to New York and other US cities from Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, Amserdam and Zurich after the EU-US open skies agreement comes into force next March.
Branson said: "We feel now is the right time to launch such a service. It would provide more choice and better quality value for customers who want to travel on a business-only carrier at exceptional value.
"Open skies enables us to compete in this area and we will be very competitive in terms of price."
The news follows weeks after British Airways said it would launch a series of new business oriented transatlantic flights, from continental Europe to the US next summer.
The flights will comprise mainly of first and business class seats, and may also include some premium economy seating. The routes are expected to connect New York to several of Europe's major business centres.
Three airlines offering all-premium flights between the UK and the US have launched over the last couple of years, US-based Eos and Maxjet, as well as British carrier Silverjet.
