Thomsonfly is set to become the first no-frills airline to offer scheduled flights from the UK to Israel.
Thomsonfly will operate three flights a week from both London Luton and Manchester to Tel Aviv, Israel’s vibrant business capital.
The new services take off on November 1, with fares starting from around £140 return including taxes and charges.
The budget airline is taking advantage of Israel’s new open-skies policy, which has been developed to attract low-cost operators to the country. Thomsonfly will offer a welcome challenge to the El Al/British Airways duopoly that has long ruled the roost on the London to Tel Aviv route. Both airlines offer far higher frequencies than Thomsonfly’s three flights per week, but may struggle to compete on price.
Thomsonfly commercial director Guy Stephenson said: "Our decision to launch into Tel Aviv will satisfy the huge demand for direct flights to this exciting Israeli city. The Israeli economy is strong and visitor numbers from the UK are up this year, which is a positive backdrop to the launch of new services."
