Europe's leading high-speed train operators have joined forces in an attempt to take on the airlines on key short-haul routes from the UK.
Eurostar has linked with France's SNCF, Thalys, which operates into Belgium and the Netherlands, and Gemany's Deutsche Bahn and ICE.
The aim of the new ‘Railteam’ alliance is to offer seamless ticketing and services for passengers wanting to travel between major destinations in north-west Europe.
When Eurostar moves to St Pancras in November on the new fast link to the Continent, it believes it will be able to woo passengers who currently fly from London to Frankfurt and Cologne. The train operator is also hoping to increase its share of passengers travelling from London to Paris and Brussels.
