News: Double blow for Liverpool airport

Liverpool Airport bosses have vowed to restore its flights to New York and London.
Flyglobespan’s much-hyped service to New York JFK has been beset by technical problems from its launch earlier this year, and will be suspended over the winter from October 31. The airline is optimistic the route will be included in next year’s summer schedule.
The loss of the New York link came just days after the airport’s only flights to London were axed by Belgian business airline VLM due to poor ticket sales.
Liverpool Airport spokesman, Robin Tudor, said he is confident both routes will be restored. Speaking in the Liverpool Post, he said: “Obviously, we are disappointed, but clearly Flyglobespan have had some very unfortunate teething problems that occurred at exactly the wrong time. They are a good, reliable airline and these are just unfortunate circumstances.”
He added: “We still believe there is a distinct market for London and we will continue to push for a London service. The key is which London airport and which airline we use. We are not giving up, that’s for sure.”
