News: Flights from the UK to Angola suspended

People trying to find flights from the UK to Angola have been hit with a double blow because of a spat between British and Angolan authorities.
The Civil Aviation Authority has banned Angolan national carrier TAAG-Angola Airlines from landing in British airspace, prompting their Angolan counterparts to ban British Airways from flying to the African nation.
Angola has one of Africa’s fastest growing economies, and demand for flights to the capital city, Luanda, have surged in recent years. The dispute means there will be no direct flights between the UK and Angola until the situation is resolved.
TAAG was scheduled to begin weekly flights into London's Gatwick airport this month, but it was banned by the CAA after the European Union recommended that the state-run carrier be added to its blacklist, citing safety concerns.
The Angolan deputy minister of transport, Helder Preza, said: "In reaction to this, we had no option but to reciprocate and that's why British Airways are not allowed to fly to Luanda.”
A BA spokesman said the airline plans to resume its weekly flights to Luanda as soon as the Angolan authorities lift the suspension on its license.
