News: Bmi launch Cairo flights from London Heathrow

Bmi will launch daily flights from London Heathrow to Cairo this winter.
The new flights to the Egyptian capital take off on October 28 and will be operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft in a two-class business and economy configuration. Return fares will start from £299 including taxes and charges.
From the same date, Bmi will increase the number of flights it offers to Amman and Beirut to daily services. Bmi inherited on both routes when it took over BMed from British Airways earlier this year.
Bmi chief executive, Nigel Turner, said: "The new destination, service and frequency enhancements that we are announcing today, together with the full integration of the former BMED network into bmi, represents the biggest expansion that we will have ever undertaken in a single action."
Bmi will face competition on the London to Cairo route from British Airways and Egypt Air. Both airlines operate daily flights to Cairo from Heathrow.

Cairo is another destination which seems to fit BMI's medium distance aspirations, even if Egypt is a little bit more of a mainstream market than most of the other countries which BMED currently operate flights to.
We often wonder just how much room there is for BMI in London's crowded flights marketplace, but using an Airbus A320 aircraft for operating Cairo flights certainly seems to make a lot more sense than sustaining more flights to mainland Europe, where there is already extensive competition from numerous low-cost airlines, as well as from the established network carriers.
