Easyjet will be running flights to Madeira for the first time this winter.
The Portuguese island, which is situated 400 miles southwest of the mainland, has been popular with British holidaymakers since the 19th century due to its year-round warm temperatures.
Easyjet is launching flights to Madeira’s capital, Funchal, from London Stansted and Bristol on October 29. The Stansted to Funchal flights will operate daily, whilst the Bristol service will run three times a week (Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays).
The no-frills airline is also launching flights to Lisbon from London Gatwick and Bristol, as well as new services to Krakow from Bournemouth and Edinburgh. The daily Gatwick to Lisbon flights take off on October 29, the four times weekly (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays) Bristol to Lisbon flights start on October 31.
The Krakow flights from Bournemouth start on October 30 and will operate three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays). The Edinburgh to Krakow flights take off on October 29 and will run four times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays).

Comment:
Madeira has a long established reputation for being an upmarket alternative to the Canary Islands, but Easyjet has clearly seen the potential in opening up new cheap flights to Funchal. This is not necessarily just about offering cutthroat competition against British Airways and the established charter carriers – Easyjet is also grabbing the opportunity to offer new Madeira flights from Stansted and Bristol. There are currently no flights from Stansted to Madeira, whilst First Choice offer weekly flights to the Portuguese island from Bristol.
