News: Ryanair axe seven UK and Irish routes this winter

Ryanair is ditching seven of its British and Irish routes this winter.
The no-frills giant is axing flights from Dublin to Malmo and Vasteras, Liverpool to Inverness, Aberdeen and Kaunas, and London Stansted to Esjberg and Malmo.
Ryanair said the domestic route casualties were due to poor sales, with Gordon Brown’s decision to double air passenger duty being the final nail in the coffin.
Ryanair communications chief, Peter Sherrard, said: "Passenger numbers were already fairly weak. Then we had Gordon Brown's tax introduced in May and that did not do weak routes any favours at all.
"Like any good company, we review operations on a regular basis and if there are routes that are underperforming in comparison to the possibilities that are out there, we are obviously going to change."
By scrapping these routes Ryanair will free up aircraft needed to launch serviced to a host of new destinations across Europe, including cheap flights to Stockholm Skavsta from Dublin and Billund.
