Qantas is set to be the first major world airline to offer in-flight internet access.
Passengers will be able to surf the net on the Australian carrier’s fleet of new Airbus A380 aircraft, which are due to delivered in August 2008.
The plane's hi-tech entertainment system will offer in-seat access to email and the internet, relayed by satellite, in every class. There will also be fast wi-fi connectivity for laptop users.
Qantas’ executive general manager, John Borghetti, said there has never been anything like this on board a commercial aircraft. Widescreen digital monitors will offer more than 100 on-demand movies, 350 television selections, 500 audio CDs, 30 PC-style games and a selection of audio books and radio channels.
