No-frills airlines Easyjet and Wizz Air have announced they will start charging for each piece of checked baggage.
Easyjet said it wanted to reduce the number of passengers who travel with hold luggage, and will be charging £2 per item from October 1. Previously, Easyjet has not previously charged for the first bag but has added a £5 fee for each additional piece. Maximum weight per passenger remains at 20kg.
Wizz Air will charge €3 (£2.05) per bag at the time of the initial booking or €6 (£4.10) per bag if paid after the initial booking. The new charging system covers all flights from October 27. Passengers who have already booked flights for after October 27 will not be charged the extra fee. Wizz will continue to charge €8 (£5.45) for each kg over the 20kg allowance.
