The boss of Ryanair has joined the chorus of criticism being directed towards airport operator BAA.
Ryanair chief executive, Michael O'Leary, claimed the Spanish-owned operator of London’s three busiest airports offered passengers a "third world service".
In a stinging attack, O’Leary accused BAA of abusing its monopoly position, claiming that the airport operator "doesn't care about passengers stuck in queues".
He added that Ryanair customers at BAA-owned Stansted were now routinely spending more time on the ground than in the air because of long security queues on outward flights and severe delays at passport control on their return.
O’Leary’s comments come days after British Airways and Virgin called on the Government to break up BAA’s London monopoly. London mayor, Ken Livingstone, has also poured scorn on BAA, claiming Heathrow “shamed” the British capital.
