News: Ryanair forced to scrap 1p flights

The days of the 1p flight are numbered - with budget airline Ryanair set to scrap the way it advertises fares.
After criticism from consumer groups, Ryanair will quote the total cost of a journey - including all taxes and charges - throughout the booking process.
It follows similar moves by Easyjet and Flybe to provide customers with a proper understanding of how much a journey will cost.
While some flights have been advertised for as little as 1p for a single; the actual cost can be nearer £60 once you have added taxes, charges and a compulsory fee to cover the cost of providing wheelchairs for the disabled.
The European Commission has been investigating budget airline pricing following fears passengers are being tricked by misleading headline fares.
It is planning to introduce laws requiring all taxes and charges to be quoted throughout the booking process.
Ryanair’s chief executive, Michael O’Leary said the airline would adopt a new all-inclusive booking process early next year, once it has changed its booking system software. Last month, in a report on air travel, the Commons Transport Select Committee accused Ryanair of “hucksterism” for concealing the true price of its fares.
