The owners of Gatwick Airport are denying rumours it will be sold as part of action to break up the monopoly running London airports.
BAA currently runs Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted airports, but has come under increasing criticism from airlines and consumer groups for offering poor service. Earlier this month the Competitions Commission announced a review of BAA's control of the three airports.
A Competitions Commission spokesman said: "We are looking at how common ownership could affect BAA's incentives both to invest in and develop its airports, and operate them."
It has been reported Gatwick would be sold for about £3bn if BAA is split up.
Bidders including Dubai Aerospace and Fraport, which owns Frankfurt airport, are reportedly considering a takeover, but BAA spokesman Mark Mann said the firm’s airports are not for sale. He added: We think there's real value in all of BAA's airports remaining under single ownership. It is in the best interest of passengers."
