Ryanair is set to replace no-frills rival Air Berlin on the Belfast City to London Stansted this autumn.
Ryanair will operate four flights a day between Belfast City and Stansted from October 30. The airline has recently announced its intention to offer twice daily services to Liverpool and daily services to both Glasgow and East Midlands from Belfast City, and it will now base a Boeing 737-800 at the airport.Air Berlin's Belfast-Stansted service currently runs twice daily flights during the week, with additional flights at the weekend. Air Berlin has not revealed why it has decided to axe its Belfast flights.
Ryanair’s chief executive, Michael O’Leary, said he expected 600,000 people to fly to and from Belfast with the airline in the coming year.
Last month, Irish national airline Aer Lingus announced plans to start flights from Belfast International, offering 21 services a week to Heathrow and other European destinations.
