News: Air Berlin pulls plug on flights between Glasgow and London

Air Berlin has axed yet another of its UK domestic routes, blaming Gordon Brown's hike in air passenger duties for its decision.
The German no-frills airline has announced that it will be scrapping its twice-daily flights between Glasgow International and London Stansted at the end of this month. The route has been running for two years.
In the past few weeks Air Berlin has also revealed that it will stop its flights between Belfast and London, and between Manchester and London this autumn. The budget carrier has previously remained tight lipped about its decision to retreat from the fiercely competitive British domestic market, but has now placed the blame firmly with Gordon Brown’s flights tax hike earlier this year.
An Air Berlin spokesman said: "The doubling of the air passenger duty made our UK domestic hub operation commercially difficult."
